The kaleidoscope of colours of the orchestra are the true stars of this programme, centred around the four scenes that Respighi dedicated to the phases of the day and, of course, the unforgettable Fountains of Rome.

Brilliance, grace and solemnity also come together in the Suite from The Firebird, a fairly tale from Russian folklore and Stravinsky’s first work for the Ballets Russes, the pinnacle of his ‘early period’.

And opening the programme, the much sought-after virtuoso Alena Baeva is making her Teatro Filarmonico debut in the premiere performance of Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto with the Arena orchestra.
