About
or Conjugal Love (L’Amore coniguale / Die eheliche Liebe)
Opera in two acts, Op. 72b (1805)
Libretto by Joseph Sonnleithner and Georg Friedrich Treitschke
based on Jean-Nicolas Bouilly's Léonore, ou L'Amour conjugal
Love, salvation, freedom: Fidelio conveys, like few other operas, values that transcend the individual story.
Leonore must disguise herself as Fidelio to infiltrate the prison where her husband Florestan is unjustly detained. Plot twists and bursts of romance in an Enlightenment-era plot, creating a hymn to justice that has transcended the centuries.
Fondazione Arena is staging Beethoven’s only opera for the first time in Verona, to mark the bicentenary of the genius from Bonn (1770–1827), in the acclaimed La Fenice production.
IN-DEPTH TALK open to the public with Carla Moreni, on Thursday 8 April at 6 pm, in the Sala Veranda at the Accademia Filarmonica di Verona.
