Francesco Ommassini

Born in Venice, he completed his musical studies in violin and composition in his native city, graduating with highest honors and cum laude. After perfecting his skills at major international academies (Hochschule in Vienna, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Scuola di Musica di Fiesole), he held the position of principal second violin with the Orchestra of the Fondazione Arena di Verona; being part of one of the most important opera houses in the world and his contact and collaboration with the leading conductors of our time stimulated his desire to undertake the study of orchestral conducting; among these, meeting Donato Renzetti, with whom he studied, graduating from the Accademia Musicale Pescarese.
From 2014 to 2018 he was Musical Director of the Orchestra Regionale del Veneto Filarmonia Veneta and since 2019 Artistic Secretary at the Fondazione Arena di Verona.
Among his recent performances and future engagements are concerts in St. Petersburg and Moscow with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra for the Rostropovich Festival, his debut at the Arena di Verona with Aida and La Traviata, Wolf-Ferrari's Il Campiello at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, the final of the Viotti Competition with the Orchestra of the Accademia della Scala, and his debut in Germany with a concert with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie.

Since his debut in 2012 at the Teatro Comunale Claudio Abbado in Ferrara with Rigoletto, his career has led him to perform in both the operatic and symphonic fields in major theatres and festivals: Teatro San Carlo in Naples for Orfeo ed Euridice (with DVD) and Paisiello's Zenobia in Palmira (with CD); Teatro La Fenice in Venice with Il Signor Bruschino; Teatro Regio in Turin with Don Checco; Teatro Lirico in Cagliari with La Pietra del Paragone, Don Pasquale and Il Segreto di Susanna; Teatro Filarmonico in Verona with La Sonnambula, Il Viaggio a Reims, Madama Butterfly, Rigoletto, Così fan tutte, Le Nozze di Figaro, La Gioconda; OperaLombardia with La Scala di Seta and La Gioconda; La Traviata at the Tirana Opera House and at the Seoul Arts Center. In Verona in 2026, he returns to the Teatro Filarmonico and to the 103° Opera Festival conducting Aida (Zeffirelli ed.).
