About

Betrayals, crime and repentance take center stage in this rare Verdi's opera, deemed scandalous and censored when originally published due to the protagonist being a Protestant pastor and a spiritual guide who discovers his wife Lina's adultery and must choose between divorce and forgiveness. A bourgeois ‘chamber’ drama in which Verdi explores burning contemporary issues and portrays powerful private conflicts with experimental and theatrical solutions against the backdrop of an austere but passionate community.

A staging by the Teatro Regio di Parma in co-production with the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, brought to the stage by today's great artists and conducted by Leonardo Sini, after his success at the 101 Arena di Verona Opera Festival 2024.
