Fondazione Arena at the Teatro Filarmonico. 2027 – A year of firsts: five world premieres and Brahms’ Requiem conducted by Noseda
The new Artistic Season has been unveiled. It all starts on 17 January, dedicated to Mozart and directed by Strehler
From 17 January to 31 December. Five operas staged at Verona for the first time, featuring works by Verdi, Beethoven, Rossini and Franchetti. And the return of The Nutcracker after more than thirty years. Nine symphonic programmes, with leading international performers.
Major productions, leading international performers and eagerly awaited debuts: Fondazione Arena di Verona announces the 2027 programme at the Teatro Filarmonico. From 17 January to 31 December, there will be six productions in our Opera and Ballet Season, each running for four performances: The Abduction from the Seraglio, Alzira, Fidelio, Il Signor Bruschino, Cristoforo Colombo (all Verona premieres) and in December, the ballet The Nutcracker. Eight symphonic concerts, each with two performances, and a special opening event featuring Brahms’ German Requiem conducted by Noseda. Student preview shows are back, along with free in-depth talks and film screenings ahead of a production's opening night. Season ticket renewals from 13 October, new season tickets and ticket bundles from 24 November, single tickets on sale from December.
The 2027 Season will reaffirm Teatro Filarmonico’s identity as a special place for encounter and discovery, the heart of our city all year round, always committed to developing its audience and fostering dialogue. A theatre that is going from strength to strength, thanks to the richness and variety of its programme, featuring classics never performed in the 52 years since it reopened, some Verona premieres, and leading international performers alongside the Fondazione Arena’s artistic ensembles.
OPERA AND BALLET SEASON 2027. As usual, the 2027 Opera and Ballet Season will feature six different productions, each with four performances: these include five opera premieres at the Teatro Filarmonico and a ballet masterpiece returning after more than thirty years. The opening in January will be dedicated to the genius from Salzburg, as part of the Mozart in Verona festival, now in its eighth year. Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio), in the Teatro alla Scala production directed by Giorgio Strehler, will sweep us away to a bustling Orient imagined at the end of the 18th century, with virtuosity and flair. March sees the arrival of one of Verdi’s rarest and unjustly forgotten operas, Alzira, brimming with melodic verve and dramatic moments that were pivotal in the Maestro’s artistic maturity, in the production that launched the 2026 Verdi Festival in Parma. In April, it is the turn of Fidelio, Beethoven’s only opera, in the production by Teatro La Fenice, Venice. After our busy summer season, October will witness another premiere, with the hilarious Rossini farce Il Signor Bruschino, in the production created by Teatro Coccia in Novara. And audiences will literally explore new worlds in November with the staging of Cristoforo Colombo by Franchetti, the first instalment of a major co-production. In December, ballet is back, with a new Nutcracker, thirty-two years after the last production of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece at the Filarmonico. Established singers and emerging talents will appear side by side on stage in performances that alternate between great classics from Europe’s leading theatres and new productions by the Fondazione.
With a view to enriching the artistic programme surrounding the season’s repertoire, Fondazione Arena has confirmed its collaboration with the Accademia Filarmonica di Verona for free in-depth talks on the Thursdays preceding the premiere of each opera and ballet. Musicologists, critics and lecturers such as Giovanni Bietti, Roberto Mori, Carla Moreni, Davide Annachini, Silvia Perucchetti and Fabio Sartorelli will introduce the productions for our 2027 Season. These productions will have a preview on Friday afternoons, during the dress rehearsals, open exclusively to pupils from schools of all levels.
Similarly, the new Music and Cinema series will return on Saturday afternoons before each premiere, transforming the Teatro Filarmonico into a magical picture house, a place to rediscover films linked to the operas and themes being performed, shown in their original language with subtitles – ranging from silent films with live musical accompaniment to all-time classics and recent hits.
SYMPHONY SEASON. Some of the most sought-after performers in the music world today will also feature in the Symphony Season, which runs from February to May with eight double-bill concerts, preceded by a special concert on 29 January – the culmination of the complete Brahms cycle of recent years – featuring the solemn and intimate Ein deutsches Requiem, with special rates for season ticket holders. The artists on the programme include Noseda, Christ, Baeva, Chen, Tamestit, Debargue, Järvi, Khrikuli, Szeps-Znaider and many others making their debut with the Fondazione Arena’s ensembles. The programme is dominated by the 19th and early 20th centuries, thanks in part to the revitalised Orchestra and Chorus: there will be performances of various symphonic masterpieces long absent from Verona’s programmes, such as Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring or Sibelius’s Second Symphony, alongside other eagerly awaited premieres, such as Das Lied von der Erde, Mahler’s spiritual testament; Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto, Goetz’s Spring Overture and the suite from Wagner’s Parsifal.
Building on the success of 2026’s Aspettando Beethoven, next year’s programme will also include, in addition to the season ticket performances, a new series of special concerts in the Sala Filarmonica dedicated to the genius from Bonn.
There are many more unmissable events planned in 2027, ranging from chamber concerts to performances for children, schools and families, the return of our guided tours and an ever-wider presence throughout the city of Verona and its surrounding areas.
SEASON TICKETS, BUNDLES AND TICKETS. For season tickets, ticket bundles and individual tickets, the Fondazione Arena is keeping the same prices as over the last three years. For the Opera and Ballet Season, the usual 4 performance slots have been confirmed (Sunday premieres at 3.30 p.m., Sunday repeat performances at 3.30 p.m., Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. and Friday evenings at 8 p.m.), as are the 2 Symphony slots (Friday evenings at 8 p.m. and Saturday afternoons at 5 p.m.).
Fondazione Arena will also offer several ticket bundle options at special prices (3 tickets for the Opera and Ballet, 3 for Concerts) and the hybrid Friday in the audience package, which will allow you to explore the 2027 artistic season with 3 operas and 4 concerts. Season ticket holders will also be able to enjoy two dates as part of the 104th Arena di Verona Opera Festival 2027 and an exclusive musical event at the Teatro Filarmonico. Season tickets can be renewed from 13 October to 14 November at the Arena di Verona box offices: both the central box office on Via Dietro Anfiteatro and the one on Via Roma 1, at the entrance to the Sala Filarmonica. From 20 October, only non-season-ticket performances will be on sale. New season tickets and ticket bundles will be available to everyone from 24 November, whilst individual tickets for all dates will go on sale from 1 December at the ticket offices and on the website www.arena.it.
BCC Veneta has confirmed its support for Fondazione Arena di Verona as the main sponsor of the 2027 Artistic Season at the Teatro Filarmonico. With 93 branches, BCC Veneta serves an area covering 252 municipalities in the Veneto provinces of Vicenza, Verona, Padua, Venice, Treviso and Rovigo, as well as the neighbouring provinces of Trento, Mantua and Brescia.
Meanwhile, tickets are already on sale for the final performances of this year’s season: from 25 October, the original diptych Jeu de cartes/Amelia al Ballo will be on stage, pairing Stravinsky’s witty ballet with Menotti’s hilarious opera, both performed for the first time by Fondazione Arena’s artistic and technical teams. From 22 to 29 November it will be the turn of Puccini’s La Bohème, in the most recent Veronese production directed by Stefano Trespidi. After winning over audiences in 2024 with 6 sell-out evenings, Swan Lake will return from 13 to 31 December. And to accompany these productions, the before-premiere programmes and initiatives are back: in-depth talks on Thursdays, previews for schools, Saturday afternoon films linked to the title on stage and Musica in Famiglia performances. Not forgetting the symphony concerts continuing into November, the Aspettando Beethoven cycle and the Musei in Musica chamber music series.
