Amartuvshin Enkhbat

Among the most sought-after baritones today, Amartusvhin Enkhbat was born in Mongolia. He began his career in Ulaanbaatar in the resident company of the Mongolian State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet and graduated from the State University of Arts and Culture of Mongolia where he started singing, growing up with folk songs and urtyn duu, the traditional songs of Mongolia.

Enkhbat is acclaimed on the world's most famous stages such as the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Opera di Roma, Teatro Regio di Parma, Arena di Verona, Wiener Staatsoper, Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Staatsoper Unter den Linden and Deutsche Oper Berlin, and is praised for his voice, which is “sumptuously coated, dark and velvety, and simply enormous” (Bachtrack).

In the 2025/26 season he returns with Rigoletto to San Francisco and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Nabucco in Bonn and Vienna, Aida in Paris, Ernani in Verona, Macbeth in Munich, and Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

He received First Prize at the prestigious Operalia competition in 2012 in Beijing, and Second Prize at the XIV Tenor Viñas Competition. He was a double winner at the Tchaikovsky Competition in St. Petersburg in 2011, receiving Second Prize and the Audience Award, and winner of the Joan Sutherland Audience Prize at the 2015 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition.

He is also honored as People's Artist in his homeland and was awarded the 2024 Ettore Bastianini Prize in Italy.

At the Arena di Verona he made his debut in 2017 as Rigoletto. In 2018 he interpreted the Verdian roles of Amonasro and Nabucco; in 2019 he sang Giorgio Germont in the new production of La Traviata and the role of Amonasro in Aida; in 2021 he was Alfio in Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana and Tonio in Leoncavallo's Pagliacci and performed the roles of Amonasro and Nabucco; in 2022 he starred in Nabucco, as Amonasro in Aida and Giorgio Germont in La Traviata, and in 2023 in the roles of Amonasro, Rigoletto and Nabucco. He took on the role of Amonasro in Aida again in 2024 and 2025: the same year, also for the 102° Festival, he interpreted the title role in Nabucco – the opening show and new production by Stefano Poda –, Giorgio Germont in La Traviata and the title role in Rigoletto. He returns to the stage of the Veronese amphitheatre for the 103° Arena Opera Festival 2026.
