After opening the 100th Verona Arena Opera Festival, the “crystal” (and record-breaking) Aida is ready to mesmerise the audience for 10 more spectacular evenings.
Ancient Egypt. Love between the commander Radamès and the Ethiopian slave (actually a princess) Aida is threatened by the war between their respective peoples and the jealousy of Amneris, the pharaoh’s daughter. When Aida's father, King Amonasro, is captured, the situation takes a turn. As preparations are made for the wedding between Radamès and Amneris, Amonasro manipulates his daughter and convinces her to deceive her beloved. Shaken by the events, Aida yields to blackmail, setting off a chain of events that engulfs everyone.
“A mystical wreath of light and flowers”, Aida returns to shine in Stefano Poda's visionary production, which opened the 100th Arena Festival last year, breaking box office records. Amidst light-up pyramids, gigantic sets, laser beams, a host of extras, and futuristic costumes (balancing classic Egyptian iconography with the stylistic innovations of Paco Rabanne, Roberto Capucci, and Damien Hirst), 10 performances of the “crystal” Aida await you (14 June to 1 August).
The historic 1913 rendition of the queen of the Arena.
