A mystery to solve. A plot that becomes an investigation. And youngsters who, like real detectives, try to unravel the mystery and close the case. On Saturday, April 18, at 3:30 PM, the Opera in giallo format returns to the Sala Filarmonica. The show is part of the Musica in famiglia series, Saturday afternoons dedicated to children and families discovering music and theatre through original performances. After the success of past years with Tosca and Rigoletto, it is now the turn of Pagliacci. Starting from the tragic finale, the audience will be involved in reconstructing what happened, guided by the characters and a narrator.

Several artists from Fondazione Arena di Verona will be on stage: Eder Vincenzi as Canio/Pagliaccio, Valentina Iannotta as Nedda/Colombina, Raffaele Zaninelli as Tonio/Taddeo, Jacopo Bianchini as Silvio, and Andrea Vincenti as Peppe/Arlecchino. Accompanied on the piano by Maestro Federico Brunello, the company members will also take on roles as masks of the Commedia dell'Arte, discovering unexpected links between reality and fiction. The opera Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo is the subject of the new Opera in Giallo production, created by Ivo Rizzi, who co-directs with Maria Sharon Menini, hosted by actor Matìas Endrek: evergreen themes and strong emotions feature in this story, which was inspired by a real-life crime case in late 19th-century Italy.

Opera in giallo is also for schools. In these days, the show is being performed for lower secondary school classes. The three morning performances have been sold out for months, with the participation of approximately 800 students accompanied by their teachers from various schools in Verona and neighboring provinces. Many institutions enrolled in 2026 have already seen the format in previous years and have chosen to offer it to new classes for its high artistic, educational, and developmental value. Some classes will participate outside of school hours, specifically at the public performance on Saturday afternoon.

The show, lasting approximately 70 minutes, is part of Fondazione Arena’s Arena Young program, recommended for an audience of at least 11 years of age and for all accompanying families. Children under 4 years of age are not admitted to the theatre. Full-price tickets at 10 euros, reduced under-14 tickets at 5 euros, available for purchase online at arena.it and at the Arena di Verona box offices.
