Michele Spotti

Michele Spotti is the Musical Director of the Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra of Marseille. He has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

He graduated in violin and orchestral conducting with Daniele Agiman at the Verdi Conservatory in Milan and perfected his skills at the Haute École de musique in Geneva and the Menuhin Festival Academy in Gstaad. He made his debut at the Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto with Le Nozze di Figaro. He was Alberto Zedda’s assistant for Ermione at the Opéra de Lyon, where he recorded Barbe-bleue, winner of the Diapason D’or.

He collaborates with directors such as Wilson, Michieletto, Kosky, Pelly, and Pizzi, and conducts in theatres such as the Bayerische Staatsoper, Komische Oper, Capitole de Toulouse, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, in Hannover, Stuttgart, Basel, and at the Wexford, Rossini in Pesaro, MITO SettembreMusica, and Valle d’Itria Festivals.

Recent engagements include: L’Italiana in Algeri at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Rigoletto at the Deutsche Oper, Les Brigands at the Paris Opéra, L’Heure espagnole/Gianni Schicchi in Valencia, Falstaff at the Verdi Festival, Norma at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Simon Boccanegra at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Die Zauberflöte at the Opera di Roma, La Fille du régiment at the Wiener Staatsoper, La Bohème in Dresden, La Traviata at the Metropolitan, and concerts in Tokyo with Juan Diego Flórez.

Musical Director of the Benevento Philharmonic Orchestra, he collaborates with orchestras such as the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, National Polish Radio Symphony, Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, Teatro Regio di Torino, Haydn of Bolzano and Trento, and the Gstaad Festival Orchestra.

He is a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of the French Ministry of Culture.

He made his debut at the Arena di Verona in 2024 for Turandot and Carmina Burana. In 2025 he conducts Rigoletto and returns in 2026 with La Traviata and Nabucco.
