Nova Juan Guillermo

Born in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, Juan Guillermo Nova graduated in history of art and technical and artistic design from the Escuela de Arte de Santo Domingo and in digital post-production and 3D projection from the Escuela Trazos in Madrid. He began his career at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
He worked on productions of Gounod's Faust at the Teatro Regio in Parma; Puccini's Tosca, Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Verdi's La Traviata at the Arena di Verona; Puccini's La Bohème at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.
In 2013 he became technical director at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, where he created the sets for Mozart's Don Giovanni and, in 2015, for Puccini's Manon Lescaut.
He also designed numerous sets for ballet, including Giselle in Trieste, La Bayadère at the Rome Opera, Le Corsaire and Don Quixote at the Maribor Theatre, and Swan Lake at the Latvian National Opera.
He created sets and video designs for: Donizetti's L'Elisir d'amore at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing in 2015; Respighi's La Campana sommersa in Cagliari in 2016 and at the New York City Opera in 2017; Donizetti's La Fille du régiment at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in 2018; Verdi's Rigoletto in Cagliari in 2018 and at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in 2019; Donizetti's Don Pasquale at the Teatro Regio in Parma in 2021; El Rey que Rabió at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid in 2021 and at the Oviedo Festival in 2022; Bizet's Carmen at the Maribor Theatre in 2022; Tosca in Cagliari and Puccini's Le Villi in Turin in 2024; he also directed Boito's Mefistofele in Cagliari in 2023.
He made his debut at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona in 2015, designing the sets for Verdi's La Forza del destino; in 2019, for the "Viaggio in Italia" series, he designed the sets for L'Elisir d'amore. He returned to the Filarmonico for the 2022 Opera Season to create the sets for La Bohème.
At the Arena di Verona, on the occasion of the 100th Opera Festival, he designed the sets for the new production of Rigoletto and returned in 2024 for the new Bohème, a special project for the Puccini centenary. He designed the sets for the opening La Traviata of the 103rd Arena Opera Festival 2026.
