The results of the Nomisma economic study

Discover the survey commissioned by Fondazione Arena on the economic, social and touristic impact of the Arena Opera Festival.

Nomisma carried out a study on behalf of the Fondazione Arena di Verona aimed at quantifying the economic, employment and fiscal impact of the Arena Opera Festival, identifying the intangible values generated for the territory, the population and the community, and analysing the positioning of the Fondazione Arena di Verona within the Italian opera and symphonic landscape.

The results

It is estimated that the 404,715 spectators at the Arena Opera Festival during the 2025 opera season generated expenditure on food, accommodation, shopping, recreational and cultural activities, and transport amounting to €315 million.

The value of the Arena Opera Festival's production reaches €1,976 million (direct, indirect and induced impact). Almost €2 billion, of which €519 million is due to the direct effect, i.e. the production intended to satisfy the tourist expenditure of the Arena Opera Festival spectators, namely expenses related to food, accommodation, shopping, recreational and cultural activities, and transport.

The indirect effect, i.e. the effect produced by suppliers and sub-suppliers of companies operating in the tourism sector (accommodation and catering, retail trade, creative, artistic and entertainment activities, transport) amounts to €324 million. The induced effect, i.e. attributable to the re-injection of income from labour and capital into the economic system and the reinvestment of tax revenues in the form of public spending, amounts to €1,132 million.

Considering the three effects together, every euro spent by spectators at the Arena Opera Festival generates, in direct, indirect and induced terms, €6.3 in production value for the national economy.
