The tenor René Barbera is an internationally renowned artist who is rapidly establishing himself as one of the leading vocal interpreters of his generation. The historic winner of all three top prizes at Operalia and winner of the 2008 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, he is consistently praised for his refined vocal technique, natural musicality and a warm, elegant timbre often associated with the great lyric tenors of the past. In recent and upcoming seasons, Barbera is performing on many of the world’s most prestigious operatic stages, expanding both his repertoire and his artistic footprint. His major debuts in key roles include Rodolfo in La Bohème, Gennaro in Lucrezia Borgia and Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore, performed in leading theaters such as the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro di San Carlo, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Hamburg State Opera, Opéra de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper and the Arena di Verona. He continues to excel in signature lyric roles, including Alfredo (La Traviata), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Ramiro (La Cenerentola) and the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto). With an ever-expanding repertoire and an increasingly prominent presence on the world’s most prestigious stages, René Barbera affirms his position as one of the most distinguished lyric tenors of our time.

He made his debut at the Arena di Verona in Il Barbiere di Siviglia for the 101° Opera Festival 2024 and returns to its stage for the 103° Arena Opera Festival 2026.
