Maria José Siri

Acclaimed for her interpretations of the most celebrated heroines of Verdi and Puccini, with a repertoire ranging from Bel Canto to Verismo, Maria José Siri is today regarded as one of the leading sopranos on the international opera scene.

Born in Uruguay to Italian roots, she developed a passion for music from a very young age, refining her studies at the Paris Conservatory and subsequently with Ileana Cotrubaș.

She arrived in Europe in 2008, performing the role of Leonora in Il Trovatore at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, followed by Aida at Teatro alla Scala.

Since then, her career has steadily flourished, particularly from 2016 onwards, when she opened the season at Teatro alla Scala as Madama Butterfly, later performing Manon Lescaut and Francesca da Rimini.

Her consecration as an international opera star came in 2017, when she was awarded the prestigious "Oscar della Lirica" (Opera Oscar).

In 2022, she made her debut at the prestigious Royal Opera House, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, and the Musikverein Graz.

Since making her debut on the stage of Verona's ancient amphitheatre in 2013, she has appeared in productions including Aida, Cavalleria rusticana, Nabucco, and Madama Butterfly.

She returns once again to the stage of Verona's ancient amphitheatre for the 103rd Arena Opera Festival 2026.
