Musei in Musica debuts at the Circolo Unificato dell’Esercito
Wind octets from Mozart to Beethoven on May 17th
The chamber music series Musei in Musica arrives at one of the new 2026 venues: on Sunday, May 17, musicians from the Orchestra of Fondazione Arena will perform wind octets by Mozart and Beethoven in the setting of the Circolo Unificato dell’Esercito di Verona.
During a weekend filled with musical events by Fondazione Arena, the chamber music series Musei in Musica reaches a new venue: the Circolo Unificato dell’Esercito di Verona. On Sunday, May 17 at 11 a.m., eight musicians from the Orchestra of Fondazione Arena will perform a concert dedicated to Harmoniemusik, the wind music of Austro-German courts for banquets and ceremonies, captured in a golden decade between 1782 and 1792. Both Mozart’s Serenade No. 12 in C minor KV 388 and Beethoven’s Octet in E-flat major op. 103 already contained innovations, personal research and experimentation that later led the composers to transcribe the works for string quintet. The new instrumentation was considered more suitable for conveying the unrest and virtuosity emerging from the original pieces, conceived for a social context perhaps too limited for the genius of these pages. The program will open with the sparkling wind octet transcription of the Overture from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, The Magic Flute.
Performing the program on Sunday, May 17 at 11 a.m. will be Francesca Rodomonti and Fabrizio Baldon (oboes), Giampiero Sobrino and Maurizio Trapletti (clarinets), Lanfranco Martinelli and Domenico Faccin (bassoons), Andrea Leasi and Claudio Carta (horns). The last remaining seats are still available for this event, the final spring concert of Musei in Musica, which will resume in October. The concert crowns a weekend full of events with Fondazione Arena, including the guided tours of the Teatro Filarmonico for Le Sale della Musica (Saturday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon), the double symphonic concert with Marc Bouchkov and the Arena Orchestra conducted by Francesco Ommassini, and the same artists’ special guest performance in Treviso on Sunday evening.
The series, organized in synergy with Palazzo Maffei, Musei Civici di Verona, Accademia Filarmonica, Biblioteca Capitolare, Circolo Unificato dell’Esercito, Accademia di Agricoltura Scienze e Lettere and Museo Nicolis, offers concerts and complimentary visits to the museum venues. Tickets, with special discounts for audiences under 30, are on sale on the website arena.it, at the Arena box offices and through the Vivaticket circuit.
SINGLE TICKETS. Each date can be purchased with a single ticket costing 15 euros (reduced price under 30: 10 euros). For all concerts (except November 29 at the Museo degli Affreschi), tickets will also be available on site on the morning of the event, subject to seat availability. Tickets include a complimentary self-guided museum visit one hour before the concert. Those purchasing a single ticket for concerts in Sala Maffeiana and/or at the Circolo Unificato dell’Esercito may choose which of the five museums to visit, starting from the day after the concert and until the end of the series.
