New Year's Eve Concert (Concerto di San Silvestro)

The Fondazione Arena di Verona bids farewell to 2023 with yet another sold-out show. Following the success of the premiere of Un ballo in maschera, the Teatro Filarmonico is set to host a special New Year's Eve Concert on Sunday, 31 December at 7:30pm. The enchanting musical evening traverses the realms of operetta, jazz, and symphony music, featuring masterpieces by Gershwin, Bernstein, Strauss, Offenbach, Nicolai, Lehár, brought to life by young Italian artists who are appreciated worldwide.

The spotlight will shine on the Fondazione Arena Orchestra, under the baton of the Palermo-born conductor Gaetano d'Espinosa, accompanied by the renowned siblings Caterina Sala (soprano) and Giovanni Sala (tenor), celebrated performers gracing stages across Italian and European theatres and festivals.

The first part of the concert will be dedicated to the captivating melodies of the American twentieth century, (An American in Paris, Candide, and West Side Story). The second half will witness the addition of the Fondazione Arena Choir, directed by maestro Roberto Gabbiani. Amidst the waltz rhythms of imperial Vienna, the choir will perform enchanting excerpts from operas and operettas such as Il Pipistrello, La Vedova allegra, and Orfeo all’inferno. The programme promises authentic, unpublished gems, including Wagner's chorus composed for the Parisian carnival and Nicolai's tribute to Shakespeare with Allegre comari di Windsor.

Two hours of extraordinary music will bid farewell to 2023 and ring in 2024 in the company of the audience and exceptional artists from the Fondazione Arena. Please note that this event is not included in ticket subscription packages.
