After studying violin and piano in Trieste, Nicolò Ceriani dedicated himself to the study of singing and in 1992 founded the "Giovani in Opera" group at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, with which he revives and performs operas that have fallen out of the traditional repertoire by composers such as Schubert, Weber, Humperdinck, Lortzing, Rossini, Donizetti, Vaccaj, Gnecco, Debussy, D'Albert, Stravinsky, Hindemith, Menotti and Henze.

He maintains an intensive career as a baritone in the main Italian and European theatres, under the guidance of conductors such as Daniel Oren, Alberto Zedda, Massimo De Bernart, Lü Jia, Yoram David, Alain Guingal, Daniele Gatti, Nello Santi, Carlo Rizzi, Jeffrey Tate, Michele Mariotti and directors like Hugo De Ana, Pier Alli, Franco Zeffirelli, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Mario Martone, Gino Landi, Damiano Michieletto. He alternates the main buffo baritone roles with traditional lyric baritone roles.
Recently, he has performed Don Geronio in Il Turco in Italia and Taddeo in L'Italiana in Algeri; Baron Zeta in La Vedova allegra, Capulet in Roméo et Juliette, Dulcamara in L'Elisir d'amore, Sam in Trouble in Tahiti and Dr. Stone in Help, the Globolinks.

Recently, he has distinguished himself in important productions such as From the House of the Dead, The Greek Passion, Der König Kandaules, Peter Grimes, Der Kaiser von Atlantis, Divorzio all'Italiana, Feuersnot and I Shardana; he is also active in the field of operetta both as a performer and director.

After his debut in 2005 at the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona with The Merry Widow, he then appeared in L'Italiana in Algeri; La Traviata, La Bohème, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Rigoletto and Le Nozze di Figaro.

Following his debut at the Arena di Verona in 2006, he took part in Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Carmen, Turandot, La Traviata, Roméo et Juliette, Nabucco, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Gianni Schicchi and Rigoletto. In 2013, he participated in the Verdi Gala and in 2018 in Verdi Opera Night.
