Francesco Lanzillotta is considered one of the most interesting young conductors on the Italian musical scene. Born in Rome, he graduated in orchestral conducting with Bruno Aprea and in composition with Luciano Pelosi with highest honors from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. He studied piano and cello. In the past, he was Principal Guest Conductor of the Varna Opera Theatre in Bulgaria, Principal Conductor of the Filarmonica Toscanini, and Music Director of the Macerata Opera Festival.

In recent years he has conducted in major Italian theatres in Turin, Venice, Naples, Palermo, Macerata, Rome, Florence, Bologna, Pesaro, Milan, Parma, Trieste, Cagliari and others. Active in Europe, he made his debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, inaugurated the 2019 season at the Semperoper Dresden, and conducted in Zurich, Valencia, Paris, Brussels, Munich and Lyon.

In 2022 he made his debut in Vienna with I Puritani at the Staatsoper. In the same year he was invited to Frankfurt, after having conducted La Traviata in 2018, to conduct a new production of Dallapiccola's Ulisse.
In the past he was very active in Russia, in St. Petersburg with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chorus of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia of Rome in a symphonic program, in Moscow with The Novaya Rossiya State Symphony Orchestra and at the Bolshoi with Le Nozze di Figaro. In Beijing he conducted Le Nozze di Figaro, in Budapest and South Korea L'Italiana in Algeri, and in Toronto and Erl several concerts.

In Montpellier he made his debut with Gianni Schicchi and La Notte di un nevrastenico.
Recently he triumphed in the demanding project Bastarda at La Monnaie/De Munt in Brussels as a composer and conductor.

He made his debut at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona in 2012 conducting a symphonic concert; he returned for the 2013 Symphonic Season. In 2014 he conducted L'Italiana in Algeri. In 2022 he conducted La Voix humaine and The Telephone, and in 2024 La Cenerentola.
He returns to the Filarmonico to inaugurate the 2026 Opera and Ballet Season with Don Giovanni.
Also in 2026, he makes his debut at the Arena di Verona for the 103° Opera Festival on the podium for La Bohème.
