The tenor Adam Smith is acclaimed for his interpretations of the Italian and French repertoire. His most recent roles include Don José in Carmen at the Royal Ballet and the Royal Opera House, Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Opéra national de Paris and Rodolfo in Franco Zeffirelli's legendary production of La Bohème at the Metropolitan Opera.
Recent engagements include Roméo in Roméo et Juliette with the Washington National Opera, Radamès in Aida at the Opéra de Rouen Normandie and the Washington National Opera, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the Metropolitan Opera, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and Staatsoper Berlin, Luigi and Rinuccio in Il Trittico at La Monnaie / De Munt, Julien in Louise at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and the Opéra de Lyon, Cavaradossi at the Staatsoper Hamburg, Teatro Mayor and Festival Puccini, Hoffmann in Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the Greek National Opera and the Opéra national de Bordeaux, the Prince in Dvořák's Rusalka at Les Arts Valencia and Teatro di San Carlo, and Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana at the Latvian National Opera.
Smith collaborates with many of the most important contemporary conductors and directors, including Calixto Bieito, Christof Loy, Dmitri Tcherniakov, Daniel Ettinger, Emmanuel Villaume and Alberto Zedda.
He makes his debut at the Arena di Verona at the 103° Arena Opera Festival 2026 as Alfredo Germont in the new production of La Traviata.
