He was born in Venice in 1961. After studying electrical engineering, in 1982 he joined the technical staff of Teatro La Fenice, where he trained professionally. In 1992, he began his artistic career as a lighting designer, creating lighting designs for major Venetian theatres, including the Teatro Goldoni, Teatro Malibran, Palafenice, and La Fenice itself, while also collaborating with London's Covent Garden and RAI.
Throughout his career, he has worked in major Italian theatres—including the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Sferisterio di Macerata, Teatro Verdi in Padua, and Teatro Sociale di Rovigo—as well as numerous international venues, such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Opéra Bastille in Paris, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the Poly Theatre in Beijing, and Orchard Hall in Tokyo. He collaborates with internationally renowned directors, including Roberto De Simone, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Ermanno Olmi, Damiano Michieletto, Francesco Micheli, Cecilia Ligorio, and many others. His numerous productions include major opera and ballet titles, from Ariadne auf Naxos to Otello, from Don Giovanni to Madama Butterfly, up to Il nome della rosa. From 2010 to 2015, he taught lighting technology and light design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, contributing to the training of new generations of professionals in the field.
He makes his debut at the Arena di Verona in 2026, designing the lights for the new production of La Traviata.
