Diego Dini Ciacci

Oboist and Orchestra Conductor

Diego Dini Ciacci has been unanimously considered to be one of the best Italian oboists in today's musical world. He received his diploma when he was only sixteen years old with top marks 'cum laude', and at the age of nineteen he won the competition for the post of first oboe with the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala. He held this position until 1983, when he left his orchestral activities to dedicate himself exclusively to his career as a soloist and teacher. This has led him to perform with the most important orchestras and play in the major world festivals, such as in Salzburg, Alicante, Strasbourg, Geneva, Wien Modern, Lucerne, Zurich, New York and Boston. He has also worked with musicians of Luciano Berio's calibre - Dini Ciacci is one of Berio's favourite interpreters of his music - such as Michele Campanella and Heinz Holliger.

Diego Dini Ciacci is a teacher at the Verona Conservatory and is often invited to give masterclasses throughout the world. For example, at Mozarteum in Salzburg, in Coblenz, Peking and Havana. For the past few years, as well as being a soloist, he has also successfully undertaken the role of conductor, which has led him to collaborate with the Orchestra of the Arena di Verona, Padua's Chamber Music Orchestra, the Haydn Orchestra of Trento and Bolzano, Sanremo's Symphonic Orchestra and the Italian International Orchestra, for which he is one of the principal conductors. In this capacity, he performs not only in Italy, but also in Russia, Romania, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Cuba and China, accompanying soloists like Viktoria Mullova, Natalia Gutman, Elena Obratzova, Katia Ricciarelli and Renato Bruson.

Recently he received enthusiastic reviews from the public and critics when he conducted Verdi's Il Trovatore at the Hong Kong Festival.

In 1997 he won third prize (the first prize was not awarded to anyone) at the "Gusella" International Conducting Competition.
Dini Ciacci was artistic director for the "I Grandi Interpreti" (Great Interpreters) Festival in Verona for three years and now he is responsible in the same position with the Italian International Orchestra.

Among the recordings that Dini Ciacci has undertaken, one of the most important is a CD for Naxos, dedicated entirely to the music of Manuel de Falla.
