
Giuseppe De Filippi Venezia was born in Milan in 1950. Since 1982, he has held various posts within the Ente Lirico Arena di Verona, today called the Fondazione Arena di Verona. Initially, he was Assistant Director of Stage Design, then, from 1985, he was Head of the Technical Department and, from 1995, he was Technical Director.
Since 2001, he has been Director of Stage Design and, in this position, he has been in charge of all productions of the Opera Seasons in the Arena, of theTeatro Filarmonico and of the national and international missions, working with, amongst others, Franco Zeffirelli, Pier Luigi Pizzi and Hugo De Ana.
In his capacity as stage designer, he conceived the staging of such celebrated ballets as
Giselle,
Coppelia,
Don Quixote,
Zorba the Greek and
Sleeping beauty and famous operas, such as
Tosca and
La Traviata, given on traditional stages and also in the open. He has designed new stages and technical equipment and, in connection with this, occasioned the design of the theatrical equipment at Karnak Temple in Luxor, leading to a survey of the site and the designing of the galleries and stage for the first performance of
Aida in 1987.
He is consultant and designer of technical equipment, with responsibility for the renovation of stage structures.
