Violeta Urmana is one of the most sought-after dramatic soprano resp. mezzo-sopranos of her generation.
Among her future projects are Tove in Schönberg’s Gurre-Lieder at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest, Isolde in Tristan und Isolde in Vienna, Madrid, Paris and Naples, Amneris in Aida at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Tosca in Vienna, Eboli in Don Carlo in Vienna, Berlin and Madrid, Cavalleria rusticana in New York as well as many concerts throughout Europe.
The Lithuanian singer is working with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Bertrand de Billy, Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Chailly, James Conlon, Marek Janowski, James Levine, Fabio Luisi, Zubin Mehta, Sir Simon Rattle, Donald Runnicles, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Christian Thielemann or Franz Welser-Möst at the most important opera houses like the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Paris Opéra-Bastille, the London Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona or the Teatro Real in Madrid and at the festivals of Lucerne, Helsinki, Edinburgh, Bayreuth and Salzburg.
As a concert singer and a recitalist Violeta Urmana performs in the major concert halls in Europe, the United States and in Japan.
She has sung a large operatic and concert repertoire and recorded several cds in the studio. Many of her performances and concerts have been recorded live on cd or dvd. She is Kundry in Tony Palmer’s film The search for the Holy Grail.
During her long lasting career she has received many prizes and awards, among those the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award for singers in London and the title Kammersängerin at Vienna State Opera.
