Yang Yang, born into a musical family, learned piano when was a child and was admitted to the Attached Primary School of Central Conservatory of Music at 12, became one of the students of Professor Li Qifang. Later, he learned conducting respectively from Professor Xuxin and Wu Lingfen, and then was admitted to the Conducting Department of Central Conservatory of Music, being one of the students of Professor Yu Feng.
As one of the most active Chinese conductors, Yang Yang has maintained close partnership with all domestically mainstream orchestras and opera houses. Meanwhile, he has successfully left tracks at a host of foreign orchestras such as German Philharmonic Orchestra of Cologne and National Rhine Philharmonic Orchestra, French Cannes Symphony Orchestra and Bordeaux Symphony Orchestra, Greek Symphony Orchestra, Athenian Chamber Orchestra and Korean Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra. He has conducted sincere cooperation with such world famous musicians as cellist Lynn Harrell, Alban Gerhard, violinist Augustin Dumay, Lenard Karpison, Lin Shaoliang, pianist Lang Lang, Barry Douglas, Kun-Woo Paik, soprano Cao Xiumei, clarinetist Sabine Meyer, etc.
Yang Yang successfully started his career life as a conductor at the First Beijing International Musical Festival and conducted operas and concerts for continually eight years from then on. He acted as an assistant conductor at China Philharmonic Orchestra from 2000 to 2005, went to Korea to participate the Master Class presided over by Myung-Whun Chung, a conducting master, in 2006 and involved in the establishment of Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009. Yang Yang is now acting as the resident conductor of China Philharmonic Orchestra and the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra.
In Nov. 2006, Yang Yang won the First Place with his outstanding performance and undisputable advantages in Dimitri Mitropoulos International Conducting Match which is held in Greek, becoming the first Chinese conductors who had won such laurel.
Besides the faithful and accurate performance of classic music, Yang Yang, as an excellent young conductor, has an acute master and a particular understanding for modern musical works, which make his interpretation for each new work, has an in-depth cogency. He has cooperated with Lin Zhaohua, a play director, and has initially and successfully performed on the Chinese music theatre such operas as The Banquet and A Madman's Diary of Guo Wenjing, a composer. In addition, he has also showed a remarkable talent in ballet music field and successfully cooperated with Central Ballet Group on such works as Nut Cracker, Fairy and Yellow River.
