Susanne Kelling was born in Friedrichshafen (Lake of Constance). She studied violoncello at the Conservatory in Cologne and singing with the American teacher Professor Klesie Kelly.
From 1995 to 1998 she continued her studies with Sesto Bruscantini at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome where she performed Dorabella in "Così fan tutte” and Rosina in "Il barbiere di Siviglia”.
In 1998 she graduated from Cologne where she earned the distinction of singing her final solo concert in 2000. She was than awarded a bursary by the Richard-Wagner foundation and sang in the Hermann Prey master-classes at the Richard-Strauss festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Susanne has been a soloist for the festival of "Arts baroques en Provence”, the "Emilia Romagna festival”, the "Thüringer-Bach-Festival”, the "Musical events of Sanssouci” in Potsdam, "Chants sacrés en Méditérranée” in Marseilles, the musicdays in Bad Urach and the MusikTriennale Köln. She is also a regular member of the "Ensemble modern” in Frankfurt.
Other engagements include solo work with the Bavarian State Opera, the radio orchestra of Munich and the SWR, the symphony orchestra of Hamburg, the philharmonic orchestras of Potsdam and Prague, the chamber orchestra of Cologne and a number of productions for television, CD and radio.
Since the 1998/ 1999 season Susanne has been the mezzo-soprano in the Young Artist programme of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
She has made guest appearances at the theatre academy in the Prinzregententheater of Munich, the State theatre at the Gärtnerplatz in Munich (Mercedes in "Carmen”), the Chiemgaufestival (Hänsel in "Hänsel und Gretel”), the Gran teatro La Fenice in Venice (Flora in "La Traviata” and Smeraldine in "L`amour des trois oranges”), Tokyo , the opera house Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, the opera house of Cologne and at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples where she sang in "Die Königskinder” by Humperdinck – the first time this opera has been performed in Italy since 1910.
Her most recent engagements are at the State theatre at the Gärtnerplatz in Munich (Ciesca in "Gianni Schicchi” , Furetto in "Il tabarro” and Rosalia in "West Side Story”) and at the opera house Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste (Venus in "Orphée aux enfers”).
