Alexander Vedernikov is among the most promising of Russian conductors of the young generation and has already conquered a large following from the foreign public and in his home country, where he has conducted for the most important orchestras, among which the Russian State Symphonic Orchestra, the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, the Moscow Radio Symphonic Orchestra and the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
Recently he was nominated musical and artistic director of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. From 2002 Alexander Vedernikov will be the Principal Guest Conductor of the North Netherlands Orchestra. Since 1995 he has been the musical and artistic director of the Russian Philharmonia Orchestra.
Alexander Vedernikov received his diploma from the Moscow Conservatory and became famous immediately in his country as opera conductor and in 1988 he entered the Teatro Musicale Stanislavsky where, among others, he conducted La Finta Giardiniera and Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart, La Traviata by Verdi, Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni, I Pagliacci by Leoncavallo, Boris Godunov by Mussorgsky, Evgenij Onegin and La Dama di Picche by Tchaikovsky.
With the Moscow Radio Symphonic Orchestra, he conducted many concerts in Russia and went on lengthy tours to Austria, Germany, Greece, Turkey and Great Britain.
Alexander Vedernikov is rapidly earning an optimum position on the international scene and is regularly invited to perform with many orchestras among which the Tokyo Philharmonic, the BBC Scottish Symphony, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires, the Symphonic Orchestra of Dutch Radio, the London Philharmonia Orchestra, the Russian Philharmonia Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, the Residentie Orkest dell'Aia, the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Argentinean National Symphonic Orchestra, the Budapest Festival Symphony, the Danish Radio Sinfonietta and the RTSI of Lugano. He has participated in the Japanese tour with the Teatro alla Scala, he made his debut at Covent Garden and was invited to participate in the tour of the Royal Opera House at the Metropolitan and the Russian Philharmonia in Benelux. In Italy: the Symphonic Orchestra of RAI in Turin, the G. Verdi Symphonic Orchestra in Milan, the Sicilian Symphonic Orchestra and the Toscanini Orchestra in Parma.
Again in Italy he has often been invited to different opera theatres among which the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, the Teatro Fenice in Venice and the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome. Abroad: he has been invited to by the Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires and the Dresdner Oper.
During the 2000/2001 season Alexander Vedernikov conducted the War Requiem by Britten and Olandese Volante with stage design by W. Wagner at the Giuseppe Verdi Teatro Comunale in Trieste.
In the near future the conductor will get up on the podium for the Montreal Symphony, Residentie Orkest, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic, JMWO of Berlin, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Russian National Symphony Orchestra (for a tour in the USA) and the Russian Philharmonic (for a tour in Japan).
At the Teatro Bolshoi in Moscow, he conducted Adriana Lecouvreur, Kováncina and La damnation de Faust in the 2001/2002 season, while for the 2002/2003 season he will conduct Turandot, Salomé and Ruslan e Ljudmila.
He has recorded for the following record labels: Russian Disc, Agorà, ARTS, Triton e Polygram.
