Susanna Rigacci was born in Stockholm and began her solo career after having won the "Maria Callas" competition (RAI - Italian public Radio and Television, 1983) and the competition organized by Mozarteum in Salzburg in 1985. She has sung in the major Italian theatres (La Scala in Milan, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, La Fenice in Venice, Teatro dell'opera in Rome, Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro Regio in Parma, Teatro Bellini in Catania, Teatro Comunale in Bologna) and abroad (in Carnegie Hall in New York, Châtelet in Paris, Philharmonic in Prague, the Wexford Festival in Ireland and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London) specializing in the Italian repertoire, and in particular in operas by Bellini, Rossigni and Donizetti, as well as French and German operas.
Susanna Rigacci has been dedicating her time, more and more frequently, to contemporary music; she was the first ever performer in compositions by Togni, Pennisi, D'Amico, Galante, and was also the lead actress in the first production of The English Cat by Henze in Italy at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna. She has sung in performances conducted by Ronconi, Pizzi, Bussotti, Salvatores, Ljubimov and many others. She has recorded for Erato, Philips, Bongiovanni and Ricordi. For the past number of years she has combined her concert activities with teaching activities; as well as giving specialization classes internationally, she teaches at the Scuola Musicale in Fiesole beside Florence.
