Annick Massis completed her university studies and received a diploma in singing at the Paris Conservatoire, where she also won first prize for singing. She made her debut at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse in 1991 and, in the same year, sang in La Finta giardiniera, Mass in C minor, Exsultate Jubilate, Requiem and Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
In 1994, she made her first appearance at the Opéra de Paris with Le Nozze di Figaro. After having taken on other roles in the French repertoire (in Thomas’s Mignon, Hamlet with the director John Cox and in concert form at the Washington Concert Opera and in Les Pêcheurs de Perles at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse) she sang several Bel Canto parts. For example, La Comtesse Adèle in Rossini’s Le Comte Ory in Paris, at Glyndebourne, at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, at Montpellier and Toulouse. She sang in Lucia di Lammermoor in Toulouse and Barcelona with the director Graham Vick and, in 2002, in the United States at the Metropolitan Opera. She also appeared in la Fille du Régiment at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva and the Opéra in Bordeaux. At the Opéra National in Paris, Annick Massis sang in Rameau’s Platée, Hippolyte et Aricie and Les Indes Galantes. She also gave recitals at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, at the Halle Festival in Germany, at the Salle Gaveau in Paris and at the Villa Medici in Rome. For the centenary of the birth of Francis Poulenc, Annick Massis sang the Gloria with the Orchestre National de France conducted by Georges Prêtre and the Stabat Mater with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and the Orchestre Philharmonique in Strasbourg. In the season 2000 – 2001, she sang in Rigoletto in Saint-Etienne, in Ophélie at the Teatro Regio in Turin, in Le Comte Ory and Mignon at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, in Tancredi at the Opera in Marseilles and Rohan’s Maria at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva with the conductor Alberto Zedda. From 2002 to 2004, she sang in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Opera in Pittsburgh, at the Antibes Festival, in Nice and Zurich and in La Traviata in Pittsburgh. Later, in 2005, she performed in Handel’s Rinaldo at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi and in Le Comte Ory in Amsterdam. At the Fenice in Venice, she sang in La Juive, in Cagliari, in Poulenc’s Gloria and at the Opera in Vienna, in Lucia di Lammermoor. Last year, she sang Mahler’s Fourth Symphony under the conductorship of Zubin Mehta in Parma and Bach’s Mass in B minor at the Teatro Comunale in Florence. At the beginning of the season 2006-2007, she gave a recital in Amsterdam and later sang Bellini’s La Sonnambula conducted by Daniel Oren. She made her first appearance in La Traviata at the Staatsoper in Vienna. She also took the role of Juliette in Roméo et Juliette at the Staatsoper in Vienna and Eudoxie in La Juive at the Opéra-Bastille.
In the summer of 2007 at the Arena, she will sing Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglila.
