
Born in Albania, Soprano Ermonela Jaho was hailed as a “revelation” by the French musical press after her debut as Violetta in
La Traviata at L’Opera de Marseille in December of 2005 and has since gone on to debut as Violetta at major theaters internationally, such as the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, Munich, the Staatsoper Berlin, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Zurich Opera, Opera de Lyon, at the Arena Di Verona, and many others. She has gained recognition as one of the finest interpreters of the role of Violetta to be heard today and has also been highly praised for roles such as Amina in
La Sonnambula, Giulietta in
I Capuleti ed I Montecchi,
Anna Bolena,
Maria Stuarda,
Manon and
Thais, Marguerite in
Faust and as Cio Cio San in
Madama Butterfly.
Ermonela Jaho opened the season at the Arena di Verona in June of 2011 as Violetta in a new production of
La Traviata conducted by Carlo Rizzi and staged by Hugo De Ana. She will make her debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan in June 2012 in the title role of Massenet’s
Manon. In the fall of 2012 Jaho will sing Violetta for her debut in Bilbao and also returns to the Vienna State Opera in
La Traviata. Future projects include her debut in Paris as Julie in a revival of Gasparo Spontini’s rarely heard
La Vestale at the Theatre des Champs Elysees,
La Rondine ,
Suor Angelica, and
La Bohème at Covent Garden,
Madama Butterfly in Barcelona, her debut at the Opera de Monte Carlo as Lina in
Stiffelio, and her debut at the Opera National in Paris as Violetta.
At the Arena di Verona she will be Micaela in
Carmen by Georges Bizet.
