Luciana D’Intino was born in Friuli, Italy and made her debut role in Il Trovatore after having won the «A. Belli» International Competition in Spoleto.
She is considered to be currently one of the best mezzo-sopranos and has sung in the most prestigious opera houses nationally and internationally. In Italy, these include Teatro alla Scala, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Comunale in Florence and Teatro Comunale in Bologna. Others in this country are Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro San Carlo in Naples and Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. In addition, there have been apperances at Arena Sferisterio in Macerata and Arena di Verona, as well as in opera houses in Palermo, Turin and Parma.
Abroad, she has performed in opera houses in Vienna, New York, Munich, Paris, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Santiago in Chile, Seville, Madrid, Dresden, Cologne, Frankfurt, Marseilles and Peking.
Her vast repertoire includes works such as: Samson et Dalila, Carmen, Il Trovatore, Aida, Don Carlo, Norma, I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Guglielmo Tell, La Gazza ladra and Aureliano in Palmira. Other operas are Tancredi, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Adriana Lecouvreur, Così fan tutte, L’Assedio di Calais, La Favorite, Werther, Oedipus Rex and L’Italiana in Algeri. Secular music in which she has perfomed include La Messa da requiem by Verdi as well as the Stabat Mater and the Petite messe solennelle by Rossini.
She inaugurated the 2005/06 season successfully performing the part of Aida in Santiago, Chile and in Zurich, Verdi's Requiem in Oviedo and in New York, La Favorite in Vienna and I Cavalieri di Ekebù by Zandonai at the Teatro Bellini in Catania.
In the 2006 summer opera season in the Arena Ms D'Intino will perform the title role of Carmen.
