Maria Cioppi 

Born in Pisa, she studied with M° Kate Gamberucci Lafferty, graduating from the “Niccolò Paganini” Conservatoire in Genoa.

She continued her studies by following a number of courses in Florence with Fedora Barbieri, at the Busseto Verdi Academy with Carlo Bergonzi and in Lucca with Gilberto Tofano.

She has taken part in numerous concerts, singing at the Teatro Sociale of Como, in the Piazza Grande of Modena, at the Romolo Valli Theatre of Reggio Emilia, at the Arena del Sole Theatre of Bologna, at the Pacini Theatre of Pescia and in Torre del Lago as part of the Puccini Festival.

She has also worked with many top-level directors such as Piero Faggioni, Giancarlo Del Monaco, Dario Micheli, Rudolf Sauser, Alessio Pizzek, Vivian Hewitt and Flavio Trevisan.

Her career has taken her to numerous theatres including the Teatro dell’Opera of Rome, the Vittorio Emanuele Theatre of Messina, the Teatro Comunale of Bologna, the National Theatre of Zagreb, the Nice Opera Theatre, the Giglio Theatre in Lucca and the Teatro Regio of Turin.

In 1990 she founded the Cioppi-Meneghini-Rizzotto chamber music trio, voice, piano and clarinet, exploring with them the less common vocal repertoire and also performing premières of new works dedicated to the trio.

As a performer of sacred music, she has been guest of the Cantelli Orchestra in the Mass in a Flat by F. Schubert in the Verdi Room of the Milan Conservatoire.

In 2003 she sang in a production of Le Donne Curiose by Wolf Ferrari at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona to mark the hundredth anniversary of the first performance, playing the role of Colombina, well appreciated by audiences and critics. She also performed in Madama Butterfly for Festival Pucciniano in Torre del Lago conducted by M° Placido Domingo and for the concert Le Donne di Puccini at NHK Hall in Tokyo.

In 2006/07 season, we remind Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Piacenza with Leo Nucci, Carmen at the Arena of Verona and again Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Mantua and Corea.

In 2007/08 again Il Barbiere Di Siviglia in Novara, Biella, Asti and Vercelli, I Lombardi alla Prima Crociata in Naples and Rigoletto in Verona.

In the Summer of 2009, she will take part at the Placido Domingo Gala, at the Arena of Verona.
