
Gillian Murphy is the principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre and became famous in the world première of
Within you without you, a tribute to George Harrison, with choreography by Natalie Weir and Stanton Welch in October 2002.
In the 2001-2002 season of the Metropolitan Opera House she received enormous success for the interpretation of three classic roles: Lisa in
Fille mal gardée by Fredrick Ashton, Odette-Odile in
Swan Lake and Kitri in
Don Chisciotte. Her performance in
Swan Lake was particularly appreciated by the audience and the critics.
Gillian Murphy joined the American Ballet Theatre as a member of the corps de ballet in 1996. In 1999 she became a solo dancer and in 2002 she was nominated principal performer.

In the 1999 season at the Ballet Theatre in New York City Centre Ms. Murphy performed in
Diversion of angels by Martha Graham, the first ever production by the esteemed choreographer.
Gillian Murphy's repertoire also includes
Without words by Nacho Duato and
Push comes to shove by Twyla Tharp. Other roles she has interpreted with the Ballet Theatre are Gulnare in
Le Corsaire and Myrtha in
Giselle, as well as interpretations of
Bayadère in the version by Natalia Makarova.
In July 2001 she danced with the Hamburg Ballet in
Corsaire pas de deux, she appeared in
Stiefel and Stars during the Vail International Dance Festival and with the Santiago Ballet in Chile in August 2001 for the occasion of Nijinsky Gala.
