
American mezzo-soprano Tichina Vaughn is internationally celebrated as an artist of consummate vocal beauty, dramatic power, and versatility. Upon receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree at North Carolina School of the Arts, she was immediately invited to become a member of the Metropolitan Opera Studio. She made her debut on the MET stage in Porgy and Bess and she sing small roles in Suor Angelica, La Traviata, The Ghost of Versailles.
During the season 2001-02, she debuts in the role of Erda in Das Rheingold and Siegfried. From this moment, she has began an important carrier in Europa and is invited at the most important theatres. She began singing the German repertoire as well as the Italian. She obtained a great success at the Staatsoper of Hamburg singing the role of Ulrica in Ballo in Maschera. After this, she performed the role of Azucena in Trovatore in Stuttgart and she obtained an enormous success of public and critic. She performed this role also in Italy, first of all in Trieste and successively in Ancona. In Stuttgart she sang also roles of the Principessa Eboli in Don Carlo and Giulietta in Racconti di Hoffmann.
In the 2002-2003 season, Ms. Vaughn made her Verona debut in Teatro Filarmonico as Ulrica in Ballo in Maschera, a role she portrayed with great success at her Hamburg State Theater debut in 2001. At the Staatstheater Stuttgart she made role debuts as Cornelia in Handel's Giulio Cesare, as Herodias in Strauss' Salome and in the televised production of the Ring Cycle as Fricka in Die Walküre. She also sang Azucena in Il Trovatore, Eboli in Don Carlo and Ulrica in Ballo in Maschera at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona.
In addition to her many successes, Ms. Vaughn also performs in various symphonic concerts. In fact, she has sung in the most prestigious concert halls with the most popular Orchestras like the Chicago Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra.
She obtained an enormous success of public and critic performing the role of Amneris at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari directed by Lorin Maazel. After that, she made her debut at the Arena di Verona with Aida.
She sang with great success the Requiem of Verdi in Parma, directed by Rostropovich, she made her return for second season at Arena di Verona with the roles of Azucena and Amneris in 2004, she sang Ballo in Maschera in Trieste and in Tel Aviv, the role of Herodiade and Azucena in Stuttgart, Falstaff in Dresden Tannhauser at Hamburg Staatsoper, Il Trittico in Los Angeles and Frankfurt, Aida in Stuttgart.
Recently she obtained great reviews from public and critics singing Elettra in Frankfurt and once again Aida in Verona.
Her future engagements include: Aida at Arena di Verona and at Baths of Caracalla in Rome, Porgy and Bess in Los Angeles, and L’italiana in Algeri, Il trovatore, Tannhäuser, Rusalka, Die Fledermaus and Salome in Dresden.
