Svetla Vassileva appears on many of the world's leading operatic stages in a wide range of roles encompassing the repertoire of Puccini, Mozart, Donizetti, Leoncavallo, Hindemith, Verdi, and Weill amongst others with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Daniele Gatti, Vladimir Jurowski, Yuri Temirkanov, Bruno Bartoletti, and Riccardo Muti.
A native of Bulgaria, she has bowed recently as Lìu in Turandot for the Los Angeles Opera with Kent Nagano, Wien Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera, and the New Israeli Opera, as Violetta in La Traviata with the Teatro Comunale in Florence and in Japan with Mehta, at Covent Garden, Verona, and in Liege, as Alice Ford in Falstaff at the Teatro Comunale Bologna with Gatti, and in the title role of Cendrillon at the Grand Theatre de Geneve. Other performances have included Adina in L'Elisir d'amore at Washington Opera and in Genoa, Gilda in a new production of Rigoletto at Florence's Teatro Comunale, Mimì in La Bohème in Toulon, Micaela in Carmen at the Arena di Verona, and Desdemona in Otello at the Rome Opera and at Teatro La Scala in Milan, Manon Lescaut and Mimi’-La Boheme in Turin.
Sought after by major international houses for her portrayal of Nedda in I Pagliacci, Svetla Vassileva has performed this role for the Rome Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Grand Theatre de Geneve, both the Ravenna Festival and Covent Garden opposite Plácido Domingo, Catania's Teatro Bellini with Daniel Oren, and at the Teatro Comunale in Florence with Bartoletti. She also has filmed I Pagliacci, opposite Roberto Alagna, which is scheduled to be released commercially in the coming season.
Concert performances have included Mahler's Symphony No. 4 in Bologna with Gatti, Tchaikovsky's Iolanta at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia with Jurowski, and operatic aria concerts in Germany and Italy. She has appeared in Turandot in Tokyo-Suntory Hall, in Pagliacci at the Arena of Verona (Opening festival).
She has obtained a great success opening the 2006/07 Season with Falstaff conducted by Jeffrey Tate. She has sung Rusalka in Turin under the direction of Robert Carsen, Pagliacci in Genoa, Otello in Parma and Francesca da Rimini with the BBC Orchestra conducted by Gianandrea Noseda. She has obtained great success at the Verdi Festival in Parma with La Traviata conducted by Maestro Temirkanov.
She also sing Stabat Mater of G.Rossini at Teatro alla Scala in Milan conducted by Riccardo Chailly, Eugene Onegin at Carlo Felice in Genoa, La Boheme at Teatro alla Scala conducted by Gustave Dudamel.She obtained great reviews from pubblic and critics opening Festival Verdi in Parma with a new production of Giovanna d’Arco, and with Turandot at Coven Garden conducted by Nicola Luisotti. She sang in a new production of Pique Dame at Teatro Regio in Turin conducted by Gianandrea Noseda and Verdi’s Requiem in Parma conducted by Lorin Maazel, as well as a new production of Manon Lescaut in Lyon, and Falstaff in Seattle.
Recently she obtained great success of public and critics singing Tosca in Rome.
