A world-famous award-winning director and one of the few Italians of his generation who has managed to unite Cinecittà and Hollywood with important international successes, Gabriele Muccino is debuting on one of the world’s most thrilling prestigious stages with the opera direction of Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci, the inaugural double bill of the 2020 Opera Festival at the Arena di Verona.

A surprise debut on the world’s largest opera stage for Gabriele Muccino, one of international cinema’s top names, a successful director and screenwriter and attentive sensitive interpreter of present-day Italy, which he has always been able to give a global profile without undermining its authenticity. Therefore, a perfect stylistic characteristic for interpreting the passion of Italian verismo and communicating it in the best possible way to the huge international audience that arrives from all over the world to fill the ancient Arena every year.

Moreover, Gabriele Muccino will find himself directing several top-grade casts, thanks to the masterly alternation of bel canto stars that the Fondazione is planning, starting with the couple Roberto Alagna and Aleksandra Kurzak, already announced for the Cavalleria and Pagliacci gala evening on the 8th of August, with a constant search for great singers who also have the acting talent that today’s opera theatre requires from performers and which Muccino’s creativity will certainly know how to exploit to the utmost.
