Getting about in the city

The best means of transport to see the City

By car:
the historical centre is closed to traffic, with the exception of residents, authorised vehicles and cars going directly to hotels.
In many areas of the historical centre parking is available but only for one hour with a parking disk displayed. You can find unlimited free parking in the main car parks in certain suburbs of Verona: at the Railway Station (in Via Città di Nimes), at the Football Stadium and in Borgo Venezia (Porta Vescovo). There are also high-security multi-storey car parks (parking fees charged) beside the Arena.
Parking for which you have to pay: Via Pallone, Arsenale, Ospedale Borgo Trento, Piazza Renato Simoni, Piazza Arditi, Via Città di Nîmes, Porta Vescovo e Piazza Isolo, Parcheggio Arena in Via Bentegodi, 1 (tel. 045.8009333) e Parking Cittadella s.n.c. in Piazza Cittadella 5/b (tel. 045.595593)
Via Roma, via Mazzini, via Cappello, via Leoni and Corso Portoni Borsari are all exclusively pedestrian zones. You can Rent a bike in Piazza Bra.

By bus:
the city buses are coloured orange and marked AMT; tickets must be bought before getting onto the bus and can be obtained from tobacco shops (tabaccheria; look for large, white "T" outside shop) and from newsagents. A daily ticket is also available.

By taxi:
do not expect taxis to stop on the street. You will find taxi ranks at the railway station and in the city centre in Piazza Bra (24 hours a day). Other taxi ranks can be round in Piazza delle Erbe, Piazza San Zeno, at Borgo Trento Hospital and at Borgo Roma Hospital.
