Christian Arming was born in Vienna in 1971. He was a student of Leopold Hager's and assistant to Seiji Ozawa in Boston and Tokyo for the production of The Rake's progress (1995) by Stravinskij, Les Mamelles de Tirésias by Poulenc (1997) and Pelléas et Mélisande by Débussy (1998).

After his experience in Strasbourg at the Opéra du Rhin and in Lisbon (Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester with Claudio Abbado), Christian Arming made his debut at the Festival in Salzburg in 1997 for the opening of the Salzburger Festpiele with the Orchestra del Mozarteum.

In 1996, as well as performing in numerous concerts, he conducted the première in Austria of Suzannah by Floyd at the Wiener Kammeroper which met with great success and he registered his first CD with the Janacek Philharmonie.
In July 1998 he conducted the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Tanglewood and in January 1999 the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in Tokyo. 1999 was also the year of The Turn of the screw by Britten at the Cincinnati Opera Festival and other concerts at the Salzburger Festspiele with the Orchestra del Mozarteum.

In the same year he made his debut in Italy with Der Rosenkavalier by Strauss at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste; in April 2000 he conducted Salome in Verona which met with great success. In 2003, again in Verona, he will conduct Elektra.

Christian Arming has also collaborated with the Deutsche Oper of Berlin, Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Radio Philharmonie Hannover, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Philharmonisches Orchester Bremen, Orchestra del Teatro Massimo in Palermo.

Christian Arming has been the principal Conductor of the Janacek Philharmonie Ostrava since 1996 and, since October 2001, permanent Conductor of the Opéra of Lucerne.
