Argentine tenor Darío Schmunck was born in Buenos Aires and has sung in international theaters throughout the world including the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Teatro Alla Scala, Milan, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Frankfurt Opera, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Teatro Real Madrid, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Teatro La Fenice, Venice, Teatro San Carlo, Naples, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, among many others.
Recently he has sung La Straniera opposite Edita Gruberova and under the baton of Fabio Luisi, Jason in Medea in Belgium, Otello (Jago) di Rossini at Theatre de la Monnaie, Lucrezia Borgia in Argentina, Maria Stuarda opposite Mariella Devia at Donizetti’s Festival in Bergamo and Rovigo, Requiem in Beirut,
During the last seasons, he perfomed the role of The Duke in Rigoletto, Leicester in Maria Stuarda and Traviata for Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Fenton in Falstaff, Tamino in “Die Zauberflöte” and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Lucia, Traviata and Rigoletto at the Hamburg State Opera, I Capuleti ed I Montecchi at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He appeared as Tebaldo in I Capuleti ed I Montecchi at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and also sang this role at Covent Garden with Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca. Schmunck returned to the Opera de Lyon as Percy in Anna Bolena and also performed this role at theTheatre des Champs Elysees in Paris.
Dario Schmunck performed the role of Leicester in Maria Stuarda at the Opéra National de Lyon, the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin and for his debut at Teatro alla Scala di Milano opposite Mariella Devia. Schmunck also appeared in London in Opera Rara’s concert performance and recording of Bellini’s La Straniera, in La Juive(Léopold) presented by the Royal Opera House Covent Garden at the Barbican Hall, Alfredo in La Traviata on tour in Venice, and on tour in Japan, as well as at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. He also appeared in the Teatro la Fenice’s revival of Donizetti’s rarely staged Pia de Tolomei and Idomeneo (the title role in german) at Festival di Martina Franca.
Dario Schmunck began his vocal studies with Maestro Andrés Risso and Professor Nino Falzetti. Following master classes with Régine Crespin, Schmunck was the winner of the 1999 Secondo Concorse Internazionale di Canto Franco Corelli in Ancona, Italy.
