Of German origins, he graduated in Stuttgart in piano, singing, composition and conducting. Then, he attended and gratuated at the Frankfurt Academy and in Vienna, where he diplomed in Lied with Walter Berry.He attended master classes with Nina Dorliac. After winning a competition in Hanover, he joined the company of Hannover State Opera where he remained for several years, performing roles such as Sarastro in The Magic Flute, Gounod's Mephistopheles, Banco in Macbeth, Figaro, Alvise in La Gioconda and La Roche in Capriccio by Richard Strauss. From 1999 to 2001 he joined the Frankfurt Opera, where he debuted in the role of Daland in The Flying Dutchman, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte, Count in Luisa Miller, G. Verdi and others.
He continued his career performing roles in Bonn as Fiesco in Simon Boccanegra and Lindorf, Coppelius, Dappertutto, Mirakel in Les Contes d'Hoffmann by Offenbach and Handel's Saul. He was guest of the Bregenz Festival (1995) and Salzburg, where he sang in Alban Berg's Wozzeck conducted by Claudio Abbado and directed by Peter Stein, also participated in productions of Wozzeck at La Scala in Milan, under the direction of James Conlon, the Teatro Comunale of Florence and Bologna with Zubin Mehta conducted by Gary Bertini.
He returned to the Salzburg Festival with The Magic Flute directed by Christoph von Dohnanyi and La damnation de Faust by Berlioz, conducted by Sylvain Cambreling and in La Scala to sing in The Woman without a Shadow Richard Strauss conducted by Giuseppe Sinopoli. Then he was engaged in the role of Fasolt in Das Rheingold in Zurich, conducted by Franz Welser-Möst, directed by Robert Wilson and Philip II in Don Carlo, Pisa, Lucca, Livorno, Brescia and Rovigo and at La Scala, where he performed the role of Crespel in Les Contes d'Hoffmann.
Recently, he switched to bass/baitone singing roles as Wotan in Walkyrie Wagner in Koblenz and Detmold, Wotan in Das Rheingold in Gelsenkirchen, Pelleas and Melisande Golaud in Debussy, Wagner's The Flying Dutchman, and in Kaiserslautern Dortmund and in Rome he sang in Rusalka, Mozart's Requiem and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
His concert activity brought him to sing in large halls in Taipei, Tokyo, Montreal, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Siena, Florence, Perugia, Rome, Vienna, Salzburg, Strassburg, Luzern, Amsterdam, Madrid, Torremolinos, Riga, Moscow, etc.. with the works of Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Dvorak, Mendelssohn, Verdi, Britten, Zimmermann and others.
