Ziyan Atfeh, Bass-Baritone born in Damask, studied with Nicolai Ghiaurov and Mirella Freni, after which he attended the CUBEC in Vignola (Italy). He won the Nicolai Ghiaurov Scholarship every year from 2004 to 2007 and the second prize at the As.Li.Co. international competition in 2006.
In 2005, Mirella Freni chose him for a concert of the best CUBEC scholars in Vignola; the following year, he participated in a concert in honor of Zubin Mehta, and was then invited to perform as international guest at a concert to celebrate José Antonio Abreu's career with the Simon Bolivar Orchestra in Caracas (February 2008).
His numerous collaborations include: Andrea Chénier (Schmidt) at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna; Don Giovanni (Commendatore) at the As.Li.Co. theaters; Aida (The King of Egypt) at the Narni Festival; Carmen (Zuniga) on tour in Modena, Piacenza and Ferrara; Verdi's Requiem at the Emilia Romagna Festival (Italy); Manon Lescaut (Geronte di Ravoir) in Modena and Piacenza; a recital at the 2010 Emilia Romagna Festival; Attila at the Festival Verdi in Parma; Idomeneo at the Settimane Musicali Festival in Stresa; and La Forza del Destino (Marchese di Calatrava) at the Teatro Regio in Parma under the baton of Gianluigi Gelmetti. He recently sang Beethoven's Symphony n.9 in Lecce; Rigoletto (Conte di Monterone) at the Teatro Regio in Turin; and La Traviata and Nabucco at the Arena di Verona.
His future plans include: La Traviata at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège; Roméo et Juliette in Piacenza, Bolzano and Modena; Falstaff at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona; and Rigoletto in Turin.
