Andrea Ulbrich was born in Budapest (Hungary). She studied at the ‘Ferenc Liszt’ Academy of Music and attended Masterclasses hold by Yevgeny Nesterenko and Syliva Geszty.
She won several international singing competitions, for example “Dvorak“ in Paris (1986), the International singing competition in Vienna (1987) and „Belcanto“ in Brussels (1990).
First engagements lead her to the Opera in Budapest, where she instantly joined the company; later she also became a part of the company of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. She regularly performs on several international stages.
In 1995 she debuted in the title role of Rossini‘s La Cenerentola at the Opera Graz and afterwards sang in Die Hochzeit des Camacho in Brussels and Antwerp and in Bizet’s Carmen (concert performance) in the Wiener Konzerthaus and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
She sang the role of ‘Olga’ in Eugene Onegin at the Staatsoper Berlin and at the Oper Frankfurt and ‘Aldagisa‘ in Bellini‘s Norma in Budapest. In 2005 Andrea Ulbrich had e great personal success as ‘Amneris‘ in Aida at Teatro Regio in Turin under the baton of Pinchas Steinberg. In Budapest she performed in Donizetti’s Roberto Devereux and has been ‘Azucena’ in Il Trovatore in Cremona, Brescia and Pavia, at the Semperoper in Dresda (conductor Fabio Luisi), at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste 2009 and at the Arena in Verona.
In 2011 she sang Il Trovatore in Köln and in Tokyo, Liszt’s Legend of Saint Elisabeth in Rome and Nabucco, as Fenena, at the Arena in Verona. In 2012, she started with Il Trovatore in Toulouse, in summer 2012 she sang Aida and Il Trovatore at the Arena di Verona and subsequently Il Trovatore at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna. In Summer 2013 she is once again at the Arena di Verona as Azucena in Il Trovatore.
