Born in Kurgan Region (Russia), he studied at the Tscheliabinsk University and the Music Academy in Moscow (Prof. P. I. Skusnitschenko).
He won several international singing competition including the Glinka (1991), Mario del Monaco (1992), Luciano Pavarotti (1992), I Cestelli (1995).
Since 1991 he is soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and permanent guest of the Marijnski Theatre in St. Petersburg.
His wide repertoire includes above all the leading Verdi, Verismo and Russian Opera roles.
He appears regularly in La Scala Milano (Otello, Iolanta), in the Bastille Opera in Paris (Boris Godounov, War and Peace, Andrea Chénier), the Metropolitan Opera in New York (War and Peace), as well as in Vienna (War and Peace), Toulouse (Andrea Chénier), Deutsche Oper Berlin (Un ballo in maschera), Staatsoper Berlin (Macbeth), Festival Verdi Parma (Un ballo in maschera, Rigoletto), Marseille (Sampiero Corso), Montpellier (Otello) Monte-Carlo (Otello, Boris Godounov), Sevilla (Eugen Onegin), Liège (Aida), Toulon (Un ballo in maschera, La Traviata, Tosca), Venezia (Boris Godounov), Genova (Andrea Chénier, Nabucco) etc.
The baritone collaborates with conductors like D. Oren, J. Conlon, V. Gergiev, Y. Temirkanov, G. Noseda, G. Carella, P. Steinberg and stage directors like M. del Monaco, F. Zambello, A. Tarkovsky, H. Brockhaus etc.
Some of his future engagements are: Aida in Rome (Terme di Caracalla 2010), Simon Boccanegra in Strasbourg (2010), Otello (2011), The legend of…Kitej, La Gioconda and Tosca (2012-13) in Paris, Pagliacci in Marseille (2011), Andrea Chenier in Vienna (2012).
This is his Arena di Verona debut.
