Mario Piazza was born in Montreal (Canada). Since his first steps in choreography in 1987, he received several acknoledgments such as the Prix Volinine in Paris, Premio Gino Tani, Singolari di danza in Rome, and was italian Representative to the "Prix Volinine" in Paris in , Prix Guido Lauri 2011 . He has been invited to UNESCO ( Paris) as rapporteur on the theme: "Choreographer: right to exist, right to be different".
Artistic Director from 1993 to 2000 of his own company, he has been from 2000 to 2002 Vice Ballet Director at the Teatro Massimo of Palermo. He has set for italian and abroad companies such as MaggioDanza Teatro Comunale of Florence, Warsaw Opera House, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Regio of Parma, Teatro Regio in Turin, Sferisterio of Macerata, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Opera House in Rome, "Festival De La Havana (Cuba), Mittelfest , Wiener Mozart Jahr ( A ).
His ballet "Ghetto", created with Klezmer music and pieces from Goran Bregovic, for the Sofia Opera Ballet is still in the Repertoire of the company and is worldwidely touring and has been awarded by the European Association for Jewish Culture in London.
Also intrigued by the ballet repertoire, Mario Piazza reinvented and staged his own version of "The Nutcracker", and he thought up a new "Coppélia".
Mario Piazza has been a guest choreographer at the Rome Opera House for the season 2010, with a new creation "The Bad Boys of Piano" on music of Francesco Casavola and for the Verona's corps de ballet, created his own choreographic version of "The Three Penny Opera" from Bertold Brecht on Kurt Weill's music.
