David Sotgiu took his diploma in oboe at the Conservatory “Francesco Morlacchi” of Perugia, his home town. He attended singing classes with Renato Bruson, Ruggero Raimondi, Raina Kabaivanska, Veriano Lucchetti and Mietta Sighele.
He won the “A. Belli” International Competition of Spoleto. During 2002/2003 season he debuted at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale of Spoleto in La prova di un’opera seria by Gnecco, Il filosofo di campagna by Galuppi, Le nozze di Figaro, Don Pasquale, La Traviata. He also took part in international tour with Teatro Sperimentale of Spoleto (Poland, Ungary, Canada, Japan).
In 2003 he debuted in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto in San Marino. In 2004 sang Reigen by Boesmans at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg and subsequently in Colmar, Mulhouse, Paris and Lausanne. Then he appeared in concert singing Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle in Arezzo and Bach’s Magnificat in Fabriano.
In 2005 he took part in Tristan und Isolde (Jungen Seemanns e Ein Hirt) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and performed in Nave a tre piani by Boccadoro at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Under the baton of Gustav Kuhn he sang Don Carlo at the Arena Sferisterio of Macerata and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle with Orchestra Haydn.
In 2006 he was re-invited in Genève to sing Hamlet by Thomas with Michel Plasson conductor and the Spring Symphony by Britten. He also debuted in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale in Spoleto and in Donizetti’s Adelia conducted by Gustav Kuhn. In Warsaw he sang Beethoven’s Messa in C major op. 86 under the baton of Jesús López-Cobos. In Savona and subsequently in Piacenza and Rovigo, he sung Tutti in maschera (Il cavaliere Emilio).
He just sung Rigoletto (Duca di Mantova) at the Stadttheater in Berna, where he will be back with the Rosenkavalier. At San Gimignano Toscana Opera Festival and then at Théâtre Municipal de Lausanne in Lausanne he was Alfredo Germont in La Traviata and in Naples Paolino in Il matrimonio segreto.
In the next months he will be Gastone in La Traviata in Vicenza and in Verona.
