Bruno de Simone
BARITONE

He was born in Naples. At the same time with his classical studies in secondary school and university, he studied music and voice under the guidance of Sesto Bruscantini.
From the very start of his brilliant career he took part as protagonist in important revivals or rare eighteenth-century compositions achieving an unanimous personal success. He is the reference performer for all the productions of eighteenth-century opera buffa in recent years and he is the most prolific singer in this specific repertoire.
He is a regular guest at the most prestigious national and international theatres, musical foundations and festivals: Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Arena di Verona, Teatro la Fenice in Venice, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and abroad Vienna, Tokyo, Barcelona, Madrid, Washington, San Francisco, Amsterdam, La Coruña (Festival Mozart), Berlin (Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper), Munich, Geneva, Zurich, Liege and many others.
He sang in collaboration with the most renowned conductors including R. Abbado, B. Campanella, R. Chailly, D. Gatti, J. Lopez Cobos, Z. Metha, R. Muti, A. Zedda.
In the Rossini repertoire he boasts no less than sixteen roles with whom he achieved great successes by both public and press. Such achievements earned him the famous “Rossini d’oro” as ideal performer of Don Bartolo in IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA (in 2007 he sang the role at the Arena di Verona under the direction of Hugo De Ana and such was the success that he was requested for the same role in 2009 and he will perform it again in the summer 2011. Likewise, his Don Bartolo triumphed for three seasons at Teatro alla Scala, in 2000, 2002 and 2010 with the memorable staging of J.P. Ponnelle), Don Magnifico in LA CENERENTOLA, Taddeo in L’ITALIANA IN ALGERI, Raimbaud in LE COMTE ORY, Germano in LA SCALA DI SETA, Pacuvio in LA PIETRA DEL PARAGONE and the poet Isidoro in MATILDE DI SHABRAN, role with whom he obtained a striking personal success at the ROF in Pesaro in 2004.
Many times he performed DON PASQUALE, as both the title role (Teatro alla Scala, dir. R. Muti) and Malatesta, and L’ELISIR D’AMORE (Dulcamara and Belcore) with broad approval.
His exceptional skill as interpreter of comic and buffo roles is accompanied by full achievement in serious and half-serious roles: Varbel in LODOÏSKA by Cherubini (Teatro alla Scala, dir. R. Muti, 1996), Kyoto in IRIS by Mascagni, Lescaut in MANON LESCAUT by Puccini, Marcello in LA BOHÈME, L’AMOUR DES TROIS ORANGES by Prokofiev (re-opening of Teatro Malibran in Venice), Falstaff as both the title role and Ford, Michonnet in ADRIANA LECOUVREUR by Cilea. Very interesting and significant were his performances of GIANNI SCHICCHI by Puccini as the title role at the Concertgebow in Amsterdam directed by R. Chailly and of Fra Melitone in LA FORZA DEL DESTINO at Teatro Regio in Turin and afterwards in Florence, under the direction of Z. Mehta.
He recently sang in IRIS at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, L'ELISIR D'AMORE in Bilbao and Venice, ADRIANA LECOUVREUR and LA FORZA DEL DESTINO in Barcelona, DON GIOVANNI in Verona and LA CENERENTOLA at the Opera National in Paris, IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA at Staatsoper in Berlin.
Among his future engagements we remember L'ELISIR D'AMORE in Verona, IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA in Lausanne, Madrid and Verona, LA FORZA DEL DESTINO in Bilbao, LA CENERENTOLA in Liège.
