Reinhild Runkel 
MEZZO SOPRANO 
After receiving her diploma in singing, from 1975 to 1982 she collaborated with the Nuremberg Theatre and performed in a vast repertoire which ranges from Monteverdi to Ligeti. She has been a guest at the greatest European theatres (Vienna, New York, München, Paris, Sydney, San Francisco, Tokyo, London, Berlin and Chicago) and has sung roles such as Mrs Begbick in Kurt Weill's opera Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny and has interpreted Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde with performances in Zurich, Lyon, Pretoria and Santiago in Chile.

She has successfully performed in the opera Elektra by Strauss in Zurich, Dresden, Barcelona, Tel Aviv, Paris, Cologne, Sydney and the Berliner Staatsoper conducted by Daniel Barenboim. She has interpreted the roles of Fricka and Waltraute in the production of Ring des Nibelungen in Catania, Stuttgart, Reggio-Emilia, Düsseldorf, Zurich and Amsterdam. In Zurich she made her debut in the role of Amme, The Nurse, in Die Frau ohne Schatten by Richard Strauss and subsequently she gave performances in Melbourne, Amsterdam, München, Vienna, the Met in New York and Teatro alla Scala in Milan conducted by Giuseppe Sinopoli.

With her vast repertoire Reinhild Runkel has been a guest at the principal opera theatres of the world. For the occasion of the centenary of the Münchner Philharmoniker Foundation, she sang Verdi's Requiem conducted by Sergiu Celibidache.

Today she can boast numerous discographic recordings among which Die Frau ohne Schatten, conducted by Sir George Solti with the participation of Placido Domingo, for which she was awarded the prestigious "Grammy Award".
