Paolo Rumetz 
TENOR 
Paolo Rumetz was born in Trieste and began taking singing lessons in his native town at the Tartini Conservatory, subsequently specializing with Metternich in Munich and with Guelfi in Rome.

He made his debut in 1985 in Trieste in Cimarosa's Maestro di Cappella. He subsequently performed in La Notte, a pastiche of Mozart's works, at the Festival dei due Mondi di Spoleto (1987).

In 1988 he made his debut at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste in Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos and in Die Lustige Witwe. He attended the courses run by Claudio Desderi at the Music School of Fiesole and was selected to perform in the role of Guglielmo in Così fan tutte (Massa and Florence) conducted by Desderi.

Highlights of his past engagements include Parsifal, Les contes d'Hoffmann, Werther, Tosca, Tristan und Isolde and La bella Elena (Teatro Verdi in Trieste), Don Giovanni (Britten Theatre in London, Teatro Verdi in Pisa, Lucca), Evgenij Onegin (Teatro La Fenice in Venice), La Traviata (Treviso, Savona), La Bohème (Fermo, Savona), Le nozze di Figaro (Florence, Pisa, Massa), Fedora (Trieste, Treviso, Rovigo), L'Elisir d'amore (As.Li.Co., Pisa), La scala di seta (Arena Sferisterio in Macerata), L'occasione fa il ladro (Macerata, National Theatre in Prague), il turco in Italia (Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Trieste, Pisa, Opéra de Massy in Paris, Reims), Malipiero's Sior Todero Brontolon (Venice, Treviso), Menotti's La santa di Blaker street (Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania), La pietra del paragone (Teatro Comunale in Modena, Garsington Opera Festival), La cambiale di matrimonio (Arena Sferisterio in Macerata), Boris Godunov and L'inganno felice (Venice), I quatro rusteghi (new production of the Teatro La Fenice in Venice), Offenbach's Pepito (Florence), Das Rheingold (Alberich; in a stage competition organized by the Graz), La Gioconda and Carmen (Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa), La Cenerentola (Udine), Il Trovatore (Fiume).

His repertoire also includes works such as L'Italiana in Algeri, Le comte Ory, Don Pasquale, La sonnambula, Lucia di Lammermoor, Madama Butterfly, Turandot, La forza del destino, Falstaff, Il campiello and I pagliacci.

Paolo Rumetz's 2000/2001 season was marked by the portraying of Lord Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa, Ravenna Festival and Pavia, performances of Simon Boccanegra in Parma, Bolzano and on a Japanese Tour with the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, St. John Passion and Lohengrin at the Teatro Regio in Turin, followed by the new production of Un giorno di regno (under the baton of Corrado Rovaris) and Madama Butterfly at Teatro alla Scala in Milan. During the 2001/2 season, he sang in Falstaff in Rovigo, Bolzano and Trento, I Pagliacci at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona and in Il processo at the Teatro Valli in Reggio Emilia and at the Teatro alla Scala. Particularly prestigious was his recent debut at the Opernhaus in Zurich in Il turco in Italia and I quatro rusteghi, as well as his return to Turin for a new production of Don Quichotte.

Highlights of his future engagements include Assassinio nella cattedrale at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome and La Bohème (Marcello) in Verona.

In addition to his vast operatic repertoire, Paolo Rumetz maintains an active concert schedule, which includes works such as Frescobaldi's Praecursor Domini, Hasse's La conversione di san Agostino, Carmina Burana and Mahler's Lieder eines farhenden Geselle.
