She completed her musical studies, obtaining a diploma in piano and singing. She made her debut at Martina Franca’s Valle d’Itria Festival in 1991 in the role of Aquilio in Vivaldi’s Farnace, receiving great acclaim from public and critics and subsequently returning many times to perform in the same festival. In 1994, she won the competition for young opera singers organised by the “Friends of the Gallery of the Teatro alla Scala”. In the same year, she also won the competition of the Italian Opera and Concert Association (AsLiCo) enabling her to make her first appearance in the role of the main character in Galuppi’s La Diavolessa.
She has made first appearances in the principal roles of the mezzo-soprano. These include: Amneris in Aida, Azucena in Il Trovatore, Eboli in Don Carlo, Fenena in Nabucco, Preziosilla in La Forza del destino, Maddalena in Rigoletto, Emilia in Otello, Mistress Quickly in Falstaff, Federica in Luisa Miler, Zaida in Il Turco in Italia, Tisbe in La Cenerentola, Adalgisa in Norma, Elena in Mefistofele, Fidalma in Il Matrimonio segreto, Fulvia in La Pietra del paragone, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Carmen in the opera of the same name, Laura in La Gioconda, Beppe in L'Amico Fritz, Felicia in Il Crociato in Egitto, Ozias in Juditha triumphans and Albine in Thais.
She has made frequent appearances in works of sacred music. For example in the Requiem by Mozart and by Verdi, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, the Stabat Mater by Pergolesi and by Rossini, the Dies Iste and La Risurrezione di Lazzaro by Perosi and Colla’s Resurrexit (its first performance).
She has sung in the principal Italian opera houses: Arena di Verona, Teatro San Carlo in Napoli, Teatro dell’Opera in Roma, Regio in Torino, La Fenice in Venezia, Sferisterio in Macerata, Regio in Parma, Ravenna Festival, Terme in Caracolla. She has also performed in numerous traditional opera houses, such as at Bari, Bolzano, Busseto, Ferrara, Firenze, Lecce, Modena, Pisa, Reggio Emilia, Rovigo, Savona and Treviso. Abroad, she has sung in the opera houses and festivals of Hamburg, Athens, Avenches, Barcelona, Berlin, Bucharest, Budapest, Hong Kong, Liège, Munich, Monte Carlo, Moscow, New York, Reutlingen, Seoul, Strasbourg, Tel Aviv, Tokyo and Washington.
She has sung under the following conductors: Bruno Aprea, Bruno Campanella, Angelo Campori, Massimo De Bernard, Alessandro De Marchi, Asha Fisch, Romano Gandolfi, Lü Ja, Julian Kovacev, Gustav Kuhn, Alain Lombard, Fabio Luisi, Steven Mercurio, Daniel Oren, Carlo Palleschi, Antonio Pirolli, Stefano Ranzani, Donato Renzetti, Corrado Rovaris, Massimiliano Stefanelli, Viekoslav Sutej, Roberto Tolomelli, Emmanuel Villaume, Marcello Viotti, Ralf Weikert and Alberto Zedda.
