Yoram David 

Orchestra Conductor

Yoram David was born in Tel Aviv and settled in Europe at the age of 6. After having studied music at the Royal Academy of Music in London he continued his training in Vienna under the guidance of Hans Swarowsky. He made his debut with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and immediately afterwards with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London.

In 1977 he moved to Germany and collaborated with the Frankfurt Opera, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, the Staatsoper in Hamburg and the Staatstheater in Stuttgart. In 1980 he made his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich where he conducted Die Zauberflöte, Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro and Così fan tutte. From 1982 to 1984 he was the first permanent Kapellmeister at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Dusseldorf he was guest conductor of the leading German Symphony Orchestras such as the NDR Sinfonie Orchester in Hamburg, the SWF Sinfonie Orchester Baden Baden, the Sueddeutsche Rundfunk Orchester Stuttgart and culminating with his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker.

In 1984 he was nominated Music Director in Aachen. During the 5 years of his directorship he received particular acclaim for the operas of Mozart and Strauss and for a cycle of the complete Mahler symphonies.

In 1990 he moved to Italy and his career continued in the most important Italian Theatres such as the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro San Carlo in Naples and the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome. His repertoire ranges from Mozart, Gluck, Rossini and Donizetti to Puccini, Strauss and Bartòk.

He conducted La Traviata at the Israeli Festival and Die Zauberflöte at the Scottish Opera in Glasgow, as well as two much acclaimed productions, Lulu and Wozzeck by Berg at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice; as well as that he has performed on the podium of important orchestras among which the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie in Bremen, l'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Over the last few years he was on tour in Japan with the Ninth Symphony by Beethoven, he performed in Ferrara Musica with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, in Rome with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, in Brazil with the Symphonic Orchestra of São Paulo, in Turin with the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio, in Genoa with the Orchestra del Teatro Carlo Felice, in Naples with the Orchestra of San Carlo and in Milan with the Orchestra Sinfonica Verdi, where he was called subsequently by Luciano Berio for a programme dedicated entirely to this author.

Also, he conducted Die Teufel von Loudun by Penderecki at the Teatro Regio in Turin and Madama Butterfly in Bilbao in Frankfurt.
More recently Yoram David conducted Don Giovanni in Verona, Il Prigioniero at the Teatro Regio in Turin and symphonic concerts in Verona, Parma, Rome, Trieste and Naples. He will return to the podium of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome for a concert with music by Petrassi and Bach and to conduct Der Fliegende Holländer by Wagner.
