Orchestra Conductor

Hubert Soudant was born in Maastricht in Holland and has won numerous prizes in important international competitions for orchestra conducting: the Von Karajan in Berlin, the Cantelli in Milan and the Besançon competition.

For both operas and concerts, Hubert Soudant has conducted the most prestigious European Orchestras and has participated in the International Spring Festival in Prague, the Bruckner and Linz and the Salzburg Festival. He was Principal Director of the Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique of Radio-France in Paris from 1981 to 1983, and following this he was principal conductor of the Symphonic Orchestra of Utrecht from 1983 to 1986.

After his triumphal debut in 1985 at the Teatro Regio in Parma with I Due Foscari, numerous other operatic commitments followed in Italy: Venice, Bologna, Trieste, and the Ravenna Festival. Since 1988 he has been the Principal Conductor of the Toscanini Orchestra of Parma. He has been a guest at the Gewandhaus Orchestra of Lipsia and of the RSO of Berlin, the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Leningrad and the National Orchestra of Moscow, and is continuing his brilliant international career going from places like the United States to Australia and from South Africa to Japan.

In February 1994 Hubert Soudant was chosen unanimously by the musicians of the Orchestra del Mozarteum of Salzburg to be their Musical Conductor and since 1994 he has also been Musical Conductor of the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire.

In October 1999 Hubert Soudant was nominated Principal Guest Conductor of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and was described by the Japanese press as one of the five best conductors that had ever conducted in their country.

During the 2000/2001 season he conducted at the Teatro Massimo of Palermo, Le Nozze di Figaro which met with great success with the critics and the public.

During the summer of 2001 he participated at the Festival of Salzburg with Joan of Arc at the stake by Honegger.
