Evelino Pidò 

Orchestra Conductor

Born in Turin, Evelino Pidò studied at the Conservatory of his home town and attended the conducting master courses at the Vienna Academy.

In 1983 he became the assistant to Claudio Abbado at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

His international career started with the opening of the Three Worlds Festival in Melbourne with Puccini's Madama Butterfly followed by guest performances in Genoa, Venice, Bari and Palermo. At the Opera House in Rome in 1989 he gave the first modern version of Rossini's Zelmira. The same year he toured Australia extensively with the ABC Symphony Orchestras.

In 1992 Evelino Pidò opened the Wexford Festival in Ireland and in 1993 he made his debut in the US, at the Santa Fé Festival and at the LA Opera House, where he was immediately invited for the next four seasons. In the same year he made his London debut at the Royal Opera House. In 1995 he conducted at the Aix-en-Provence Festival and at the Opéra Bastille which met with great success with the audience.

During the 1998/99 season he conducted at the Théâtre Municipal in Lausanne, Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, Teatro Regio in Turin, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, at the Orange Festival, the Metropolitan Theatre in New York and at the Opera Bastille in Paris. He performed Il Pirata by Bellini and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Châtelet Theatre in Paris, and the latter was also performed at the Opéra di Lyon and received great reviews. He also conducted at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris and at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva, where he will regularly perform each season until 2006. In December 2003 he will return to the Royal Opera House in London, with Cinderella and in 2004 with Lucia di Lammermoor.

Evelino Pidò will return to the Festival d’Orange with Otello, to the Festival of Santa Fé with concerts and operas; new important engagements include performances in the United States and Europe.

Evelino Pidò often collaborates with the Symphonic Orchestras of RAI and the Teatro Regio in Turin, with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, with the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Orchestre Philarmonique de Monte-Carlo, the Royal Philharmonic in London, the Orquestra Sinfónica de Barcelona and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.

In Lyon Evelino Pidò recorded Donizetti's l'Elisir d'Amore for Decca and music by Rossini with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1999 he recorded two CDs with Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheorghiu and in 2002 Lucia di Lammermoor with Nathalie Dessay.
